On 10th May 2014 Nairobi JS community met at iHub with an attendance of around 25 young and lively front-end developers. They covered the following:
Mobile-first and responsive web designs
Responsive Web design challenges designers to apply a new mindset and techniques to their design processes.Twitter Bootstrap 3 is a powerful tool for prototyping mobile first and nicelyresponsive designs .
Timothy (@TechyTimo), the organiser, demonstrated a few implementations of the following handy tools in his website eurohacktrip.org :
Media queries, added in CSS3, let the presentation of content be tailored for devices with various screen resolutions and sizes without having to change the document content.
Also he demonstrated how to use font awesome which gives you scalable vector icons that can instantly be customized — size, color, drop shadow, and anything that can be done with the power of CSS.
CSS3 tricks and animations and transitions
The discussion dived into some of the latest CSS implementations floating around. He demonstrated cross-browser css definition using tools like Prefixr and Colorzilla. Learned what’s here and what’s around the corner, and how these new features will change our development workflow.
